Set in the near future, an astronaut stationed on Mars, gives birth to a boy, Gardner Elliot. He is now a teenager (Asa Butterfield) and has made friends on-line with a girl named, Tulsa (Britt Robertson), on Earth. Gardner is given a chance to go to Earth. There he will experience an adventure of a lifetime. The Space Between Us website

What to Watch For: A portion of the movie was shot at Spaceport America in New Mexico.

Word on the Street:  This is the 2nd space-related film that Asa Butterfield has starred in.  The first was the 2013 film Ender’s Game.

My Take:  2nd week in a row that Britt Robertson has been featured in a film given wide release.

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

Julia (Matilda Lutz) is worried about her boyfriend, Holt(Alex Roe), when he looks into the dark urban legend that seven days after viewing a mysterious videotape, you will die. Instead of Holt, Julia watches the video and discovers a “video within a video” that could bring out the horrors. Rings Facebook Page

What to Watch For:  The film is set 13 years after the events of the first film, The Ring (2002).

Word on the Street:  The film was shot in the Atlanta, GA area.

My Take: I am always up for a good horror film.

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

The Comedian  (2016)

Jackie (Robert De Niro) is an insult comedian who has seen better days. His fans are stuck in the past when he had a hit TV show in the 80’s. Jackie has just about hit rock bottom, so can he mount one last comeback? The Comedian Website

What to Watch For:  The film has a talented cast including Leslie Mann, Danny DeVito, Cloris Leachman, Harvey Keitel, Edie Falco, Hannibal Buress, Billy Crystal, and Charles Grodin.

Word on the Street:  Robert DeNiro has been trying to get this movie made for the past eight years.

My Take:  The movie was directed by Taylor Hackford who directed The Devil’s Advocate (1997), Ray (2004) and Parker (2013).

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

I Am Not Your Negro  (2016)

A documentary about race in America as told through the voice of writer James Baldwin. I Am Not Your Negro Website

What to Watch For:  The film is up for Best Documentary at the 2017 Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Documentary for the Georgia Film Critics Association Awards.

Word on the Street:  The film is currently at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

My Take:  I am looking forward to seeing this film.

The film opens on Friday at AMC Phipps Plaza 14,  Regal Atlantic Stations 18,  and  Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. 

 

If you can’t make it to the theatre this weekend, then stay at home and watch movies on Atlanta’s CW.
